The Buchan surname originates from the old district of Buchan in the North East of the Grampian Region, an area stretching from the River Don to the River Deveron. The name is first recorded around 1207–1208 with Ricardus de Buchan, clerk of the Bishopric of Aberdeen. The Buchans became a respected Highland family with strong ties to the region’s history and heritage.
