The MacIntyre surname is derived from the Gaelic “Mac-an-T’saoir,” meaning “Children of the Carpenter.” The MacIntyres were historically associated with the lands around Ben Noe, under Ben Cruachan, where they settled in the 14th century. They are recorded as having been Hereditary Foresters to the Stewarts of Lorn, with a tradition linking them to Glenoe from 1380 until 1810. In the 15th century, a branch of the clan in Badenoch sought protection from the powerful Clan Chattan Federation.
