The Lindsay surname originates from Sir Walter de Lindeseva, who accompanied David, Earl of Huntingdon and brother of Alexander I, to Scotland in 1124. His descendants established themselves as Lords Lindsay, and his great-grandson William of Ercildun succeeded him in this title, firmly anchoring the family in Scottish noble history.
