The Home surname originates from the lands of Home in Berwickshire. The Homes were a powerful Border family who rose to prominence in medieval Scotland. The name is first recorded in the 12th century, with Aidan de Home of Berwickshire, while his descendant Geoffrey de Home rendered homage to Edward I of England in 1296. Geoffrey’s son, Sir Thomas Home, secured the family’s influence by marrying the heiress of the lands of Dunglass in East Lothian.
