The Graham surname is derived from William de Graham, the first recorded bearer of the name in Scotland. The Grahams were a powerful and influential Scottish clan, originating in Midlothian in the 12th century and later acquiring lands in Perthshire through marriage into the earldom of Strathearn. The clan played a prominent role in Scottish history, with Sir Nicholas de Graham attending the Scottish Parliament in 1290 and Sir John de Graham supporting William Wallace, falling at the Battle of Falkirk in 1298.
