The Malcolm (MacCallum) surname originates from the Gaelic MacGhille Chaluim, meaning “Son of the disciple of Columba.” The clan traces its roots to the west coast of Scotland, with early ties to the ancient church of St Columba. In 1799, the Chief, Dugald MacCallum of Poltalloch, formally changed the family name from MacCallum to Malcolm, allegedly for aesthetic reasons. The Malcolm/MacCallum clan are historically associated with the Argyll region, noted for their loyalty and resilience.
