The Farquharson surname traces its origins to Farquhar, son of Alexander Ciar, 3rd Shaw of Rothiemurcus in Strathspey. Closely linked with the history of Clan Shaw, the early Farquharsons became part of the great Clan Chattan Confederation through shared ancestry with Clan Mackintosh.
