The Stewart surname originates from the Royal House of Stewart, tracing back to Alan, Seneschal of Dol in Brittany. The clan rose to prominence in Scotland from the 12th century, with Walter Fitz Alan, third son of Alan’s nephew, accompanying David I in 1124 and being appointed High Steward. The Stewarts became one of Scotland’s most powerful and influential families, eventually providing monarchs to both Scotland and England.
