The surname MacLennan is associated with the ancient Highlands, and the clan is closely tied to the Logans, both having originally settled in Kintail. The history of the MacLennans is unusual in that the Chiefship lay dormant for over three centuries, reflecting the complex ties and shifting fortunes of the clan. While the Logans later established prominence in the Lowlands as Lords of Restalrig, the MacLennans retained their Highland roots and identity.
